Importing VAT data on Mac OSX or LinuxArticle ID: 2869
Last updated: 29 Jul, 2019
As of the tax year release (8.0.022) TaxCalc made changes that affect the import of Excel and CSV files into the VAT Filer module on Mac and Linux systems The TaxCalc MTD VAT import wizard now supports importing directly from an Excel formatted spreadsheet file on Mac or Linux based systems. This means Excel files (.xlsx and .xlsm ) can be imported into VAT Filer without the need to have MS Office installed. Pre-2007 Excel files (xls) are not supported. While users who have Excel 2007 or later can re-save the spreadsheet with an xlsx extension, users with a pre-2007 version of Excel, or a spreadsheet program that doesn't support xslx or xlsm will need to convert their spreadsheet file to .csv format to allow importing into VAT filer. Converting your spreadsheet to csv formatIf you are using Mac OSX or Linux you can convert your spreadsheet into a CSV file using your spreadsheet software and import from that. The instructions are generic but should apply to most commonly used spreadsheet programs on Mac or Linux based systems. Please Note: csv files do not allow multiple ‘worksheets’ so users need to ensure that all of the data fields that are required to be imported into MTD VAT are on the same worksheet.
Important: The values should be in a number not currency format..Currency symbols should not be present in the cells. Using a TaxCalc CSV FileIf you don’t have a spreadsheet or are having problems getting all of the information into one sheet, then you can download this CSV file below and complete it. It can then be imported via the MTD VAT wizard.
